Meet our Coaches!

SYDNEY SCHMIDT – HEAD COACH

My name is Sydney Schmidt, one of the head coaches of the Wellsley Wave swim team this year! I am a Junior at NCSU studying Human Biology and Spanish. I am so excited to be back for another awesome season! This will be my 5th season coaching for the Wave and my 2nd year as a head coach! Let's get to work and have a great season!

CAROLINE NORLAND – HEAD COACH

Hi Wellsley Wave! My name is Caroline Norland, and I am so excited to be a Head Coach again this summer. I am a rising junior at UNC Chapel Hill majoring in Biology with a minor in Spanish. I swam for Wellsley for 13 years and have been coaching for the past 6 years. In my free time, I enjoy running, volunteering, and tutoring. I can't wait to coach for Wellsley this summer, and I'm looking forward to seeing all the swimmers again! Go Wave!

REGAN GLASS – ASST. COACH

Hello Wellsley Wave swimmers and parents! I hope you are all as excited as I am for the upcoming season! I am happy to be returning as a Wellsley Coach for my 5th year, and have been a part of the Waves for almost ten years. I just finished my freshman year of college at NC State as a Communications major… Go Pack!! I am so lucky to come back to such amazing swimmers this summer, and I cannot wait to see you all soon!

ETHAN BATCHELOR – ASST. COACH

Greetings, Wellsley Wave! I'm Ethan Batchelor, and I am excited to serve this team as a senior assistant coach this season. My experience with Wellsley Waves and swimming runs back a long time. Until 2018, I had experienced over 5 years of year-round swimming with three different organizations around the triangle, but something felt off. Nothing could beat the experience of just one summer season with Wellsley Waves- in my case, 9 seasons as of 2021, and in 2 of those seasons, I was an intern coach! I knew this was my time to step up to the block and aim for higher opportunities and coaching experiences.

Whenever I'm not at the pool with the Waves, you can find me at Publix of Bradford Plaza, pet sitting for one of your Wellsley neighbors, or on a kayak somewhere. This fall, I will be attending Appalachian State University to pursue a bachelor's degree in business management.

CYRUS JAHROMI – ASST. COACH

Hello, my name is Cyrus Jahromi. I am a rising senior at Green Hope High School who's been in the neighborhood for over 12 years. I have been competing with Wellsley all 12 years, and been a part of the Coaching staff for the past 3 years. In my free time I enjoy running, playing guitar, and playing spikeball or volleyball with friends. Swim team has been a large part of my summer for as long as I can remember, and I’m looking forward to an exciting year with the kids!!

EMMA SHIN – ASST. COACH

Hi, My name is Emma Shin! I'm a rising junior at Green Hope High School and I am an Assistant Coach this year! When I'm not in the pool, I am also a part of the Green Hope Marching Band. This will be my fifth season with the Wellesley Wave Swim Team and I hope to make this season a fun and enjoyable time for all the swimmers. I look forward to meeting everyone and I'm looking forward to having lots of fun this season!

CARMEN STRACUZZA – ASST. COACH

I’m Carmen! My pronouns are they/them/theirs, and I am super excited to be an assistant coach this year! I remember on my first day on the team, I was so nervous I started crying, and the head coach at the time pulled me to the side and comforted me. That was a really important moment for me, and I’m hoping to help other kids who were like me that day, as well as help the others learn and grow!

RILEY ERKLIN – ASST. COACH

Hi, I'm Riley Erklin. I've been a member of the swim team since 2019, the first summer after we moved here. Being part of Wellsley Wave swim team has been so important to me in the past couple of years. Through swim team, I have met and made new friends, worked towards meeting my personal goals, and learned how to be a strong team member. Currently, I am a Freshman at Athens Drive Magnet High School. I play volleyball and lacrosse and I'm in the Heath Sciences Career Academy (HSCA) to learn more about Veterinary Science and Medicine. As a coach, I am looking forward to helping swimmers reach their own personal goals and creating a fun and exciting environment for them. I can't wait to meet all of you and make this a great swim season!

AISLYN JENKINS – ASST. COACH

Aislyn is a rising freshman who has been on the swim team for several years. She enjoys dancing and singing and is excited to be an assistant coach this summer.
