Hi Wellsley Wave Families!
We’re in the final weeks of our season. We won our 4th swim meet, 72 personal best times were achieved, and 3 more records broken in 7-8 boys freestyle, 7-8 boys backstroke, and 11-12 boys breaststroke. There have been 7 records broken this season, and some were standing for more than 20 years! Several records have been broken multiple times. Wow!!! The next time you’re at the pool, be sure to check out the swim team bulletin board, which is updated each week with meet results, exciting news, and even some throw-back photos from previous seasons!
JULY 16th SWIM MEET: Last chance to fill your volunteer requirement
Have you completed your obligation of 3 volunteer roles this season? If not, sign up now for the July 16th swim meet in SwimTopia. We have quite a long list of people who haven’t completed this task. We would love to give the people who have fulfilled their requirement a break–so please signup now to do your part!
CARY CITY SWIM MEET: SATURDAY, JULY 13th
35 Wellsley Wave swimmers will participate in the Cary City Meet this Saturday. Please remember to pay your fees ASAP–we would appreciate your prompt payment in order for your child to swim. A separate email will be sent to those participating in the meet regarding volunteers, start times, and contributing supplies. The coaches are going to make this a fun event and we can’t wait to see you there!
SWIM MEET: TUESDAY, JULY 9th
Our next swim meet is Tuesday, July 9th at Wellsley. It is our final home meet of the season.
Arrival Time: 4:30 - 4:45 pm; warm-ups at 5:00; meet begins promptly at 6 pm
Volunteers: Please report to the meet director table before 5:30. There is a brief meeting for timers and officials at 5:45 at the meet director table.
Parking: As a courtesy to the guests, please DO NOT park in our parking lot. Park on Widdington or nearby streets (please pay attention to the signs. There is only parking on one side of Southwold to allow emergency vehicles and cars to pass by).
Concessions: Concessions available will include pizza, chilled chicken tenders, garlic knots, and a variety of snacks and beverages. We accept cash, Venmo, and PayPal.
What to bring and reminders: A chair for parents to sit in, towel for the kids to sit on, extra towels, sunscreen, goggles/caps, water, snacks (concessions are available), and activities to keep your swimmer occupied between events. When swimmers aren't lined up for their turn to swim, they need to stay in their designated area with their kid pusher—it is not the pusher’s responsibility to track down a swimmer for their events. Children are not allowed in the pool during the meet, so please stay behind the yellow rope and don’t dangle feet in the pool. Parents, please help us with this! Reminder: absolutely noalcohol is allowed at TSA meets.
Parents: Volunteer assignments are visible in SwimTopia. Please download & use the app, check your assignments, and remember that we can’t do it without you!
SOCIAL EVENTS: SNOW AT THE POOL!!! 11 & UP PARTY!! AWARDS BANQUET!
Snow at the Pool: Tonight–July 8th from 6-7:30 pm. Come and join us for a fun evening at the pool! Spend some time before or after evening practice helping us “chalk the walk” at the pool entrance to decorate for our last home meet the following day. The best part? We will have the snow cone machine going for the kids!
11 & Up Party: We will hold our annual 11 & Up party on Sunday, July 14th from 7:00 - 8:00 PM at the pool. There will be snacks and drinks and open time at the pool!
Awards Ceremony: Our end of season Awards Ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 18th at 7:00PM in the Wellsley Pool parking lot. Festivities will include ice cream sandwiches and popsicles, gift card raffle, swimmer awards and trophies will be presented, and the end of year slide show will finish off the night.
RSVP to this event on the signup genius. We also need several volunteers to assist during this event: Wellsley Waves 2024: Wellsley Wave Season-End Celebration 2024 (signupgenius.com)
If you are able to volunteer for any of these social events, please contact Jennifer Love at (703) 627-8158 as soon as possible.
RIBBONS
If your swimmer earned a personal best time or swam in a main heat event or relay, their ribbons are ready to be picked up at the end of their swim practice. The coaches will pass out the ribbons to the swimmers–please see a coach for assistance and don't go in the boxes if you are wet. Our ribbon coordinator would appreciate it if your swimmer takes their ribbons each week in order to make room for new ones. Thank you!
See you at the pool!
